A series looking deeper into some of the issues about living in a world that neither recognises nor submits to the authority of God. As we do so the ground rules are as follows:

  1. We need to lay aside our opinions, ethics and philosophies before we approach the biblical text (Col 2:8). We need to allow scripture to speak into culture, rather than imposing culture onto scripture. However, we also need to acknowledge that our interpretation of scripture will always be read through the lens of our culture and so grace is required to allow scripture to speak to us.
  2. We don’t know it all, we only know in part (1 Cor 13:8-12). The Bible was written over thousands of years, spanning many different cultures and languages. We rely on the those who have gone before us to inform our understanding, and we seek guidance from the Holy Spirit as we discern the veracity of interpretations.
  3. Our focus is not the programme, it is not community engagement, it is not the equipping, it is not the bible studies nor the prayer, it is not saving face nor overcoming guilt. It is that the King is exalted, and by extension His kingdom is come on earth as it is in heaven (Matt 6:10).
